Unborn Fawn Night on Whitetail Exchange
Whitetail Exchange will be offering a special Unborn Fawn Night on February 6, 2013. This sale will be a Wednesday No Reserve Sale with a minimum of $100 opening bid and a maximum of a $500 opening bid on all unborn 2013 fawns. There will be no panel vote to get your animals in the sale. This sale is open to everyone. Whitetail Exchange will promote all of the consignments that are submitted for this special sale in our industry emails.
Terms of the sale – All animals are to be either 10%, 25% or 50% down at completion of sale. This is left up to the consignor. The payment of the remaining balance should be clearly spelled out in your consignment. Buyers must be given a guarantee. They need to be guaranteed they are getting what they are bidding on is what they will get. We all know that AI is not 100% and we cannot in most cases guarantee the sex of the fawns, so it needs to be spelled out in the consignment what you will do for the buyer if the fawn is not born.
This is a GREAT way to promote what you have coming on your farm and a great way for interested buyers to upgrade their genetics with a choice 2013 fawn. Please list your consignments under the special Wednesday No Reserve category “2013 Fawns” by February 1, 2013 to be included in the sale.

Timothy Marks of Towaco New Jersey bought one straw of Loner and did not pay for it. Did you know that the highest commission you will ever pay on a consignment that you sell on Whitetail Exchange is $500? That’s right, Whitetail Exchange charges a 10% commission on all lots with a cap of $500. This means that any sales over $5,000 only pay $500. This is a great way to sell your high end genetics and expensive straws of semen and have assurance that you will not be paying 10% on the entire sale.
Did you know that a normal listing on Whitetail Exchange is free? All normal listings (not featured or highlighted) are 100% free on Whitetail Exchange. If your consignment doesn’t sell, it still costs you nothing for trying. The only way that you have to pay commission is if your consignment sells. There are no “No Sale” fees on Whitetail Exchange.
When you take all of this into consideration, Whitetail Exchange is the one of most economical ways to sell your semen and animals. You can sit in your living room or home office and list all of the auctions you would like and simply get a check in the mail when they sell. It can’t get much easier than that. Whitetail Exchange Policy on Uncollected Semen
Whitetail Exchange understands that each year people have bucks explode in their pen that they have yet to collect semen on. This makes marketing a buck for this upcoming breeding season rough when you have the buck, but have no semen. This is why Whitetail Exchange has always allowed consignors to sell uncollected semen on the site. There are however a few rules/guidelines that must be followed.
1 – Consignors must guarantee a date that the semen will be collected by, or offer a 100% refund to the buyer.
2 – The consignor must guarantee a good quality collection or offer a 100% refund to the buyer.
3 – We strongly suggest that you make this date early enough that you have time to get straws transferred and shipped to the buyers to use for this year.
We feel that this policy is fair to both buyer and seller when dealing with semen that is to be collected in the future. Feel free to consign any semen you would like to market this Fall and get a jump start. Message System
Recently we have had several people trying to make side deals on the message system. The message system is for asking specific questions about consignments. Not for making side deals. The people who have been using the message system to bypass Whitetail Exchange have been suspended from using the site. Please use the message system for what it was intended, not for lowball offers to consignor and selling “on the side”. Richard Levens of Grovetown TX NON PAYER

The minimum end of auction fee (Commission) for any auction will be $10.00 effective March 15, 2011. This will only effect items that are sold for under $100.00. Jeff Kenney of Woodward OK bought 5 Straws for one money and did not pay for it. Steve Watkins of The Woodlands TX bought 1 straw 007, 1 Straw Pinnacle, and one straw Maxbo JES. He paid for none of them. TB Blood Test!
If you are scheduled to TB test your "Elk, Reindeer, or Whitetails" this winter, please contact Shawn Schafer, 651-212-1315 schafer@nadefa.org
As I travel throughout the industry, I am often asked about the status of a blood test for TB. I will have an article in our next NADeFA Magazine that will explain the details further, but the short story is that we are working with USDA in the final process to add a blood test to the TB Eradication Program for Cervids. For several years we have been providing blood to the research lab to be used in development and licensing of new tests. There are several companies that have blood tests that look very promising, and one such test from Chembio (StatPak) has been licensed and is now in the final stage of being approved as an official program test.
This process involves a field trial comparing it to the skin test (SCT) presently used during TB Accreditation and Reaccreditation. We are hopeful that we can get enough herds to participate from around the country to give us enough data this winter, that we will be able to move ahead with the rule change process next fall.
The species they are focusing on this year are those that have significant amounts of serum presently held in the blood bank that can be included in this trial. Those three species are Elk, Reindeer and Whitetails. If you are scheduled to TB test any of these species in the next few months and would like to assist in replacing the Skin Test, please contact Shawn Schafer, 651-212-1315 schafer@nadefa.org for more details (the cost will be covered by USDA).
It is my goal to replace the skin test for all cervids. If you are going to be testing other species, please contact me as well and I will arrange for materials to be provided to your veterinarian so you can provide serum samples to the USDA Blood Bank for future validations.
Shawn Schafer Stocker Doe program on Whitetail Exchange
Today’s breeding market has built to such a high level that we are faced with fewer opportunities to stock breeding facilities and more opportunity to stock hunting preserves. As we all know, the hunting preserves are our ultimate end user. Without a strong hunting market, our industry will not remain strong.
Each summer a whole new group of super fawns are born which theoretically makes most of the older stock in our pens worth less money. At some point, they are not desired genetics for other breeding facilities. These animals still have value to hunting preserves.
Many of us struggle with population control in our own breeding facilities. Feed bills add up to thousands of dollars each year, vet bills too. Some breeders have no problem selling their older stock, but many of us have problems. We need a new market. This is why Whitetail Exchange has started a new program to market your older, unwanted our outdated genetics to hunting ranches across the country.
Many hunting ranches are looking for does to stock their preserve with fresh genetics. As our industry moves toward producing 300, 400 and now 500 inch genetics, our hunting ranches are mostly hunting for under 200 inch bucks. This is their core market. Many of us have does that will produce just what the hunting preserves are looking for and are willing to sell them at a reasonable price if we know that they are going to the end user, the hunting ranch.
That is why Whitetail Exchange has created a category for stocker does. We encourage producers to take advantage of this category and list groups of does that they are willing to sell to hunting ranches at a reasonable price. This is the perfect time of year to take advantage of this. Bred does are ready to be moved over the next couple of months and hunting season is all but over in most hunting ranches. This is a great time to move in groups of does to the ranches to assure fresh genetics in their ranch next summer.
Hunting ranches buying these does are the ultimate end user. They are not TB Accredited and are not CWD certified. Your animals will not be in the breeding market anymore. This program created room for the next group of super fawns that will be born next summer.
Don’t let overcrowding in your pens take away from your farms bottom line. By selling your lesser quality does to a hunting ranch at a reasonable price, you are reducing the expenses on your farm, increasing the revenue on your farm, reducing the risk of disease and hunting ranches have the opportunity to stock their ranch with some good genetics.
We encourage consignors to sell in groups if you have them. Group them as small or large as you would like. Most preserves we spoke to before launching this program said they wouldn’t be interested in single does.
Don’t forget the bucks! There is also a category on Whitetail Exchange to sell you stocker bucks. Let potential buyers from all across the country see what bucks you have for sale. Whitetail Exchange currently has over 1600 registered users that could be interested in your stocker bucks.
Tommy Gioele of Port Allen Louisiana bought one straw Hardwood and one straw of Timberjack and never paid for them. Justin bought a straw of Undertaker for $120 and has not paid for it. Sharon bought a straw of Undertaker for $100 and a 30 pack of Darts for $100 and has not paid for it. Jay Don bought a straw of Maximillion for $290 and has not paid for it. New Program on Whitetail Exchange
After a great suggestion from a customer, Whitetail Exchange has decided to implement a new and exciting program on the auction web site. This program will start with the August 8, 2010 (last week’s sale) Wednesday No Reserve sale.
Here is how the program will work. Each week at the end of the Wednesday No Reserve auction we will determine which consignment sold for the highest price. The owner of this consignment will receive one free emailing from Whitetail Exchange to promote their farm or their animals. This email will be sent to thousands and thousands of deer farmers across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
There is no time limit on when you get your free emailing. If you want to save them up for a certain time of year, just send us the information and when you what it sent. We want to help make your farm more profitable. You let us know when you want the email sent.
Sorry, but this program is only for the Wednesday No Reserve Sale. Get your great consignments in and reap the benefits twice. Once when you get your check in the mail for the sale and then when we help promote your farm to thousands of deer farmers.
Thank you to Dean Sullins of Pennsylvania for the great idea.
Robert Henson bought 4 different straws and has not paid for any of them.
Jeffrey Parker of Tippecanoe Ohio bought one straw of Crossbow for $100 and has not paid for it.

Hydro Ax | Want to speed things up?
Want to get your semen fast? With breeding season fast approaching, time is of the essence for many of us making last minute semen purchases. We have two suggestions that will definitely speed things up for you as we get closer to breeding season.
Money Orders – You can next day air a money order to Whitetail Exchange. Believe it or not, a money order still takes 24 hours to clear any bank. If you next day air a money order, you will have confirmation of the sale 24 hours after we receive payment.
Wire the money – You can wire the money for purchases directly to us. There is a small wire fee for this, but it is by far the fastest way to finalize your transactions. If you are interested in wiring the money, give us a call or send us an email.

Typhoon | Todd Frank of Lancaster Ohio purchased 3 Straw Thermal, 2 Maxed Out, 2 Chance and an open or bred doe in early July and has not paid for them after several requests. Recently we have been reading all the posts on www.deerfarmer.comas well as receiving many phone calls about people’s concerns with selling Shooter/Stocker Bucks. Whitetail Exchange has decided to do something about the concerns.
.
Beginning with the Wednesday, September 2, 2009 auction and lasting throughout the Fall, Whitetail Exchange users will be able to list Shooter/Stocker Bucks on the site and have them end during the Wednesday No Reserve Auction. These hours are 7:00pm-11:00pm Eastern Daylight time. They will be listed under the heading of Shooter Bucks, but will end during the WNR hours. We are doing this because on Wednesday nights Whitetail Exchange has the most traffic and the will give you the most exposure possible.
.
Reserves prices WILL BE allowed on all shooter/stocker bucks even though they are ending during the Wednesday No Reserve hours. This is the only exception to the “No Reserve” policy.
.
Whitetail Exchange encourages all user that wish to list Shooter/Stocker bucks to be very thorough in their listings. Here is some key information to list.
1. Score (tine length, Spread, Mass, etc.)
2. Location
3. Delivery price or availability with dates
4. Testing
5. Any other important information
.
Whitetail Exchange strongly encourages all consignors to use www.dabuckchannel.comto post video of your bucks. Pictures are great, but video is better. Utilizing Da Buck Channel will only enhance your consignment. Your video listing on Da Buck Channel can be linked to your auction.
.
Remember, if your consignment does not sell on Whitetail Exchange, there is no charge. What do you have to lose? After Meeting with Will Ainsworth, Glen Dice and Harry Strawser today at the TDA sale, we have made a policy change for the Wednesday No Reserve Auctions. We have always allowed the use of names and phone numbers on live animal consignments. Effective immediately, all consignments on the Wednesday No Reserve have the option to list contact information for the seller.
.
Thank you to everyone for their support of Whitetail Exchange. Eric Jon Hrudka of Manitowoc, Wisconsin purchased 1 Straw Show Me Wildcard, 1 Straw Timbermax, 1 Straw Sledge, 2 Straws TS Hotrod, 1 Straw MN Geronimo, 1 Straw Pot O Gold and 1 Straw of Peacock Jr on this site for a total of $1602.00 and wrote NSF checks for them.
Our apologies to the consignors who will not get paid on these consignements. We have a brand new feature that you may have noticed on our site. THE DEER CHATTER - an online chat room for your entertainment during the auction. You must be a registered member of Whitetail Exchange, but don't worry, registration is free and easy to do. Just click on the registration tab on the top of the page and fill out the short form.
To start using the Deer Chatter:
1. Log into Whitetail Exchange
2. Click on the Deer Chatter Graphic (it will automatically log you in)
3. Type until you can't type anymore.
Feel free to join other chatrooms and invite other Whitetail Exchange Members to use this great service.
Also, please remember to be respectful of others in the chat rooms. We will "BAN" users for bad language or other such violations.
PS. You can send private messages to others in the chat rooms that only the "recipient" can see! Just click on the Bidder Id of the person you wish to send the "private" message to. Records on Whitetail Exchange
Highest selling Bred Doe – Maxin Bred Doe, Russ Walk Jr - $32,601.00
Highest Selling Doe Fawn – Outcross x Tonto’s Mom, Will Ainsworth - $22,925.00
Highest Selling Straw of Semen – Maxbo Ranger, Leon Beechy - $19,450.00
Highest selling Buck/buck Fawn – Yearling Breeder buck, Kenneth McIntosh - $6,010.00 Auction sniping is the process of watching a timed online auction, and placing a winning bid at the last possible moment (often seconds before the end of the auction), giving the other bidders no time to outbid the sniper.
.
On Whitetail Exchange auction sniping does not work. We have a feature added that will add a certain amount of time to the auction if a bid is placed at the end of the auction. So, if a bid is now placed in the last 5 minutes of the auction, 5 more minutes will be added to the auction time. This is done so everyone has a fair chance to bid on the item. This feature has always been on Whitetail Exchange. The time has been reduced from 15 minutes to 5 minutes. Whitetail Exchange has responded to the issues with the auction website during the past couple of weeks by upgrading to a new, more powerful web server. What will this do for our members? The New Upgrade will make our site 20 times faster and 20 times more powerful than the old server -- enough to handle all on-line bidders at once.We also have the capability to improve the site or "Tweak" it each week. So... send us your suggestions and ideas to make the site better in the upcoming weeks. Give us a call on our Auction Hotline --> 877-431-4868 or send us an email: staff@whitetailexchange.com Whitetail Exchange is Growing
Whitetail Exchange has been experiencing very rapid growth over the last several months. We would like to thank each and every person who has consigned, purchased, signed up or even went to the website. We have been overwhelmed with the fantastic response.
.
Don't worry, as you have seen on the site, things aren't going to get boring. We are working on new and exciting ways for all deer farmers to market their semen and their live animals. The Auction site is still in its infancy stages and bigger and better things are on their way.
.
Today we met with Curt Waldvogel via the telephone to discuss some ground breaking new techniques that will help in the promotion and sales for deer farms of every size. Curt has always been very much in support of these new ideas and has always been accepting and supportive to the buying and selling of his genetics both by him and others on Whitetail Exchange.
.
Here are a few of the highlights from last nights auction
.
Highest Selling Straw of Semen - One Maxbo Ranger straw, a tremendous Maxbo son and Max Grandson sold for $19,450.00. This is the highest selling straw of semen in any auction that we know of this year. Congratulations to David Esh on your tremendous purchase and thank you for your support of Whitetail Exchange.
.
Highest Selling Animal - Congratulations to Will Ainsworth of Dream Ranch for selling an unborn fawn out of Tonto's mother bred to Outcross. This fawn sold for $22,925.00. Thank you to Will Ainsworth for giving us a shot at selling this tremendous animal and congratulations to Ron Myers on your great purchase.

Todd and Scott All buyers who purchased any semen or live animals from us on Whitetail Exchange will be placed in a drawing for 10 straws (1 straw per winner, 10 winners) of the pick of the yearlings from Whitetail Dreams and Timber Hollow Whitetails for the Summer of 2009. There are over 100 that will be grown out. Bloodlines include Timberjack, Lumberjack, Waldo, Highway 10, Waylon, Rocky Roller and other great bucks. We are hoping for several very good yearlings. We will post the winners on our web sites or you can e-mail or call us for more information. Drawing will be August 15th 2009 If you are bidding on items in the Wednesday No Reserve sale you will want to manually refresh your screen often. If you don’t refresh manually an auction could close without you knowing it. Hitting F5 on your PC will refresh your screen. When an auction ends with a winning bidder, Whitetail Exchange automatically sends the winning bidder an email letting them know that they are the winning bidder on the item. The email comes from staff@whitetailexchange.com If you do not get your successful purchase notification you may want to check your mail settings to assure that you get your emails from us. If you don’t get your mail, it’s not the end of the world. When you are logged in, go to the members area on the left side of your screen. Under “Bidding” you will see “Won Items”. Click on “Won Items” and it will bring up all the auctions you have won.
All checks need to be sent to Whitetail Exchange within 10 days of the end of the auction ending. Once the check is received at Whitetail Exchange, it is deposited into our bank. Once the check clears the bank (usually 3-5 business days) we will send the buyer and seller a notification of the completed transaction. We will give the buyer all the sellers contact information and the seller the buyers information. At that time the buyer and seller will make arrangements between them for delivery.
Checks need to be mailed to:

$2500 + in purchases. Due to overwhelming response to the “Wednesday No Reserve” sale on www.whitetailexchange.com we will be extending the sale until 11:00pm EST. With the large volume of consignments, there simply isn’t enough time between auctions for people to bid. Adding one additional hour will make things a little less hectic on Wednesday.
.
Whitetail Exchange would like to thank everyone for their support of the site and the Wednesday No Reserve sale. Remember, auctions start closing at 7:00pm and will close all the way up to 11:00pm EST

Live Animal Sales on Wednesday No Reserve
.
We understand that buying and selling animals on the internet is kind of a tricky deal. We also understand that with Whitetail Exchange’s policy of no personal information exchanged on the site, it is even more tricky. That is why we have come up with the following change to our policy.
.
Effective immediately, if you are willing to sell your animals on the Wednesday No Reserve sale, you can include your phone number in your listing. This will allow all potential buyers to contact you via the telephone to ask any pertinent questions about the animal.
.
Once again, phone numbers and or contact information will only be allowed in the Wednesday No Reserve sale and for live animals only. Wednesday Night on Whitetail Exchange Extended to 10:00pm
.
This Wednesday night on Whitetail Exchange promises to be bigger and better than last Wednesday. By request, the Auctions will end this week between 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm Eastern time. This is an attempt to space out the auctions and give people more time to see the auctions before they sell.
.
With over 30 great consignments for March 4, 2009 there should be something for just about everyone. Thank you to everyone that supported last weeks auction and Whitetail Exchange.
Todd Auction sniping is the process of watching a timed online auction, and placing a winning bid at the last possible moment (often seconds before the end of the auction), giving the other bidders no time to outbid the sniper.
Whitetail Exchange is proud to offer a new service to our members. Each Wednesday night from the hours of 7:00pm – 10:00pm Eastern time we will be offering “No Reserve” Auctions. Each of these auctions will start with a $100 opening bid and will have no reserve. When Auctions are available from consignors, we will offer this service. The initial response from past consignors is that we will be hosting these auctions every week.
.
Sellers
.
Each week if you would like one of your auctions to run in the no reserve time slot, you will need to have your consignments to Whitetail Exchange by 5:00pm on the Friday before the auction. Any auctions that are submitted after the deadline will be eligible for the following Wednesday’s sale.
.
Buyers
.
This is an auction in the truest sense of the word. None of these auctions will have reserves. If there is an opening bid, there will be a sale. Bid with confidence knowing that the high bidder wins the product.
.
If you haven’t signed up for Whitetail Exchange yet, it is easy and it is FREE. All you have to do is go to www.whitetailexchange.com and hit “register”. 269-207-0624 todd@whitetailexchange.com How does Item Swapping Work?
.
Item swapping is just as it sounds. If you see an auction on Whitetail Exchange that you would like to trade for and you think you have something of equal or greater value, you simply can offer a swap of the items. You will need to look for the auctions that will accept swap offers. Just simply look for the words “Swap offers are accepted for this item”
.
Once you put in your “offer”, the consignor of the item will receive an email notifying them that an offer to swap has been placed on their item. At that time the consignor will either accept the offer or reject it. Once they make their decision, an email will be sent to the person who made the offer letting them know the outcome.
.
Once again, we ask that no personal information is exchanged when making an offer. Remember to take into consideration that the consignor pays a $35 fee to accept your offer.
.
If you have any further questions on how this option works, feel free to contact me at todd@whitetailexchange.com or at 269-207-0624.
.
Thank you for your support of Whitetail Exchange. Whitetail Exchange realizes that there are a lot of people that would rather trade and barter than buy items outright. Therefore we have built an “Item Swap” feature on the auction site. Item swaps are a flat $35 introductory fee that is due from the person who has the consignment listed on the site. The fee is due when the Item Swam is accepted by the consignor. These fees must be paid via Pay-Pal at auctions end.
.
Whitetail Exchange is proud to offer this new tool to deer farmers. Your feedback is appreciated on the site at all times. Feel free to call or email us at any time with your concerns. Just simply go to the contact us tab and you can get all of our information.
.
Note – When you set up your auctions, you need to check the box that you are willing to take item swaps if you wish to utilize this function. Advice to Sellers
.
We have received a few complaints from buyers about reserve prices. The specific complaint is that reserve prices aren’t close enough to the selling price. Bidders have had some reservations about bidding several times to meet the reserve price. At times, if nobody else bids on the item, the bidder is forced to outbid their self to find the reserve. Putting your opening price closer to your reserve may create some more bids. Whitetail Exchange Partners with Apple Creek Whitetails
Whitetail Exchange is proud to announce its partnership with Apple Creek Whitetails. Partnering with Apple Creek Whitetails provides the opportunity to promote the online auction site to its fullest. Whitetail Exchange staff will now be at many of the major live auctions and State Deer Farmer functions around the country promoting the site to potential users. This will ultimately help to sell consignors items and will assure even more quality consignments to choose from on the site.
.
The common goal of the entire Whitetail Exchange Staff is to assure that the auction continues to maintain the highest level of integrity. We all want the online auction to continue to be a place where both buyer and seller can be confident in their purchases and sales.
.
With the future of Whitetail Exchange looking even brighter, there are plans for bigger and better things to come. Stay tuned to www.whitetailexchange.comto hear about the future plans for the site.

There are two different scenarios when proxy bidding is utilized on this web site. Below is a description of both.
Items that have not met their reserve price – When dealing with items that have not yet met their reserve price, the proxy function does not go into effect until the reserve is met. The easiest way to describe how this works is by way of example. Let’s say for example an item is listed with a $100 opening bid, but the consignor has set a reserve price at $1000. Let’s also assume for this example that the bid increments are $10 increments. If the first bidder bids $100 on the item, that bid is recorded as the highest bid, but notes that the reserve is not yet met. If the second bidder bids $800, this will be recorded as the highest bid, again with the reserve not met. If the third bidder bids $1100 the highest bid will be recorded as $1000, the value of the reserve. This is because the Whitetail Exchange software will only take the bid as high as it needs to go to win the item. The bidder is essentially saying that they will go all the way up to $1100. This bidder now has an $1100 proxy and they are the highest bidder at $1000.
If the next bidder places a bid at $1050 the software will accept the bid and automatically tell them that they are outbid. Once this bid is placed the original bidders bid will go to $1060, the next increment.
Items that have met their reserve price – Bids that have met the reserve price work the same way as described above after the reserve was met. A bidder can bid the maximum amount of money they are willing to pay for an item and the software will only take them as high as they need to go to outbid the previous bidder.
This software was designed so the user doesn’t have to constantly monitor their bids. They can put in the maximum amount that they are willing to pay and all bids below that which are submitted by other bidders will be outbid.
.
As sellers, everyone would like to sell their consignment for as much money as they can get or at the very least sell if for your minimum. Whitetail Exchange has compiled a few tips to help you sell your consignments.
Time of Day – For those of you that have been keeping tabs on the auctions, you know that there are far more people on line during the evening hours than the morning hours. When you list your consignment you can choose the “custom end time” and pick the exact day and the exact time you want your consignment to end. Peak hours seem to be between 6:00pm and 10:00pm Eastern time.
Starting Price – Starting your consignment at a lower price and allow for more bidding on your consignment. This allows the seller to see how much there is on the consignment. When listing your item, you can choose to “enable reserve” function, which guarantees the seller that the item has to meet their reserve price.
No Reserve – This is a bit more risky for the seller, however buyers know that the seller is serious about selling the consignment. If you choose not to have a reserve, we suggest that you start the auction out in the ballpark of what you want for the consignment.
Features – Featuring your consignment on the home page or the category page puts your consignment in front of more viewers. The home page featured items rotate each time a person clicks on the home page. This function is not free, however it is inexpensive.
Bold and highlight – Bolding or highlighting your consignments is an inexpensive way to draw attention to your ad. This can be selected when you set up your auction.
Whitetail Exchange has added a “Make Offer” option when listing your consignments. This option will enable buyer and seller to essentially “barter” a bit when the seller chooses to use this option.
When the Seller sets up their auction and they choose to use the “Make Offer” option they will set a price range on the offers that they will consider on their consignment. No offers can be made outside the price range established by the seller.
This option will let potential buyers know if the seller is firm on their price or if they are willing to reduce it a bit. This is not to be confused as an offer to start the bidding at a lower price. You are offering to buy the consignment if you make a lower offer. If the seller accepts your offer, you purchase it.
If a consignment is not listed with “Make Offer” Whitetail Exchange asks that you do not use the “ask the seller a question” function to offer a lower price. What are all these different Auctions?
To help with some of the initial confusion with the different types of auctions, we will try to further define the auction types for you.
Standard Auction – A standard auction is the every day auction that everyone is used to. When the consignor sets up a standard auction they will have the opportunity to set a price to start the bidding. This price is not necessarily the price that they will accept, it is a price that will start out the bidding within the “ballpark” of what they would like to get for the item. When the consignor sets up this auction they also have the opportunity to set a reserve price. This is the rock bottom price that the consignor wants to get for the item. Once bidding reaches this reserve price, the item will be considered sold to the highest bidder at the conclusion of the auction. If the bidding never reaches the reserve, the item will not be sold.
When bidding on a standard auction the buyer can submit any bid they wish that is higher than the starting price. Each time they bid, they will get an e mail (unless they are an AOL user) notifying them that their bid has been received. This e mail will let them know if they are still the high bidder and if the reserve has been met. The buyer may get a message that says they are the high bidder, however the reserve has not been met as of yet. The bidder may then wish to place a higher bid to reach the reserve price. If the reserve has been met, the e mail will simply inform you if you are the high bidder.
Dutch Auction – A Dutch auction is an auction that allows for the consignment to be split up. The consignor can list from 1 to as many identical items as they wish on these auctions. Once again the consignor can list an opening bid and a reserve price like in a standard auction. When the buyer bids on these consignments, they can choose how many of the items they want to bid on and how much they want to bid on each item. For example if there is an item that lists 10 straws of semen for sale in a Dutch auction, you can bid on just 1 straw if you wish. Again, once your bid is received, an e mail will be sent to you informing you on the status of your bid. Once the reserve has been met (if there is a reserve) on the particular items that are listed, they will be considered sold to the highest bidder at the conclusion of the auction.
You will know if an auction is a Dutch auction as it will ask you how many items you wish to bid on. This box is right above the box that you submit your bid in.
Buy Out – All auctions (Standard and Dutch) offer the “Buy Out” option if the consignor chooses to use it. By using the Buy Out option when you list your consignment it gives the buyer the opportunity to forego the auction process completely if they so wish. A potential buyer can simply click on the Buy Out button and purchase the item without bidding on it.
Consignors may wish to simply use the Buy Out option rather than listing an opening bid or a reserve price. If you know exactly what you want for your item, no more or no less, this is the best option for you.
I hope this helps clarify the different types of auctions offered at Whitetail Exchange If you are an AOL member and sign up using your AOL email address, you will not be able to recieve email notifications from Whitetail Exchange. You can however, contact AOL and ask them to forward your messages from Whitetail Exchange..
