How to Bid
(Q) How can I place a bid?
(A) To place a bid on an item you must first login to your account.
Once logged in, a bidding box will be displayed at bottom of all auction item display pages. You can use this box to place you chosen bid .
Our system allows for the use of "Proxy" bids. You can enter the max you are willing to bid on an item and our system will place the lowest bid allowed. The rest of your proxy bid is kept in reserve and if you are out bid by another bidder the system will go to your reserve and place the next acceptable bid for you.
The auction system will continue to place bids on your behalf until your proxy bid has all been used. With this system you may place the max amount you are willing to spend on an item and not be forced into checking the item page to bid. If you are out bid at anytime the system will send an email to the email address that you have on file to let you know that you were outbid.
Proxy bids are perfectly safe and are not available to any other bidders view. You may check the status of any proxy bid and auction in the members area located on the left side of the page. Simply click on the "bidding" icon and your bidding data will be made available to you.
You are free however to bid the min bid amount on any auction. If you are out bid our system will email you to let you know.
(Q) How can I keep track of items I'm bidding on?
(A) You can keep an eye on everything you are bidding on by visiting your members area and selecting the "bidding" page.
(Q) How do I know if I am outbid on an item?
(A) Our auction system will automatically notify you via email if you are outbid.
(Q) How can I list an item?
(A) You must first be a registered member. Once you have registered simply login to your account and click on the "Sell" link. The first thing to do is select a general category for your item, note that you can choose a more specific category further into the listing process. You can then enter in your chosen settings and item description.
(Q) How can I keep track of items I'm selling?
(A) You can keep an eye on everything you are selling by visiting your members area and selecting the "selling" page. The "selling" page icon is always located on the left side of the page in the member's area.
(Q) Can I use HTML when listing an item?
(A) Yes you can, however we recommend you use basic tags as complex HTML descriptions may not display correctly.
Shill Bidding is bidding that artificially increases an item’s price or apparent desirability, or bidding by individuals with a level of access to the seller’s item information not available to the general Community. Shill bidding is prohibited on Whitetail Exchange.
Because family members, friends, employees or associates of sellers have a level of access to item information which is not available to the general Community, they are not permitted to bid on items offered by the seller–even if their sole intent is to purchase the item. family members, friends, employees or associates may purchase items from a seller without violating this policy simply by using purchase options–such as Buy Out–which do not involve bidding.
Whitetail Exchange strongly encourages sellers with employees to ensure that their employees are aware of this policy and the possible consequences of violation.
Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:
Limits on account privileges
Forfeit of Whitetail Exchange fees on canceled listings
Loss of status
Referral to Law Enforcement
If you believe that another member is artificially raising the price or desirability of an item by shill bidding please report it to Whitetail Exchange. Please be sure to provide the user IDs and the item numbers in question.
